Finding Your Passion, Purpose and Work

Many of us find ourselves wondering about our work, our purpose in life. Often, I would get friends who would ask me this question.

I thought back the last time I’ve asked myself this question. Often enough, this question came when life seems to be get really down. Or when things does not come “my way”. Instances of these include “My job is so boring” or a recent family argument with a loved one, or a dawning that resembles, “Oops, I am now 30 or 40 or 50”.

I used to be totally miserable when these moments come. ‘Cos everything seems out of “control”. Everything is against me. I am not getting what I want. Why is everyone happy, fulfilled except me ?

Fortunately, now I’ve come to realize it’s not necessary so. Part of this understanding is a by-product of genuine acknowledgement that a part of myself is attracting these experiences, for me to learn something about myself. Additional factors include learning about different healing modalities, other energy work and incorporating these principles into my own life.

But back to the topic. I was clearly distressed over my lack of “understanding” on the above.

A respected teacher/friend asked me simply for answers for the following question and that is this :-

  •  What are the things which you are happy in doing ?

I went along doing this seriously. Of course I did it seriously. I had a serious question, and I was going to find out the answer.

I went to places when I could sit down with a pen and paper. I sat and asked that one question in my mind. I waited.

At times I felt nothing was coming.

At times tons of information would come…it was afterwards I realize that some of those are what my family/friends’ answers for me, and not really my own.

At times, millions of sparks flew across the mind and I got so tired from the writing.

But at the oddest moment , it came. When it came, there was an instant flow of lightness and great delight.

After I’ve jolted the answers. I went about an experiment on this.  I simply observe my state of mind, energy level, the level of enthusiasm whenever I engage in these discussions with people. I wrote down/record/remembered how I felt during these conversations. In the discussions strongly related to what I liked to do, I find myself uplifted, uplifting, lighter, more humorous, joyous and more happier and energized.

And I reckoned, when one is truly engaged in something they love, the energy is higher, stronger, more expansive, more vibrant. Love, is a higher vibrational state than say, depression. So, the energy felt , bodily observations can give one hints on what you really like.

Now that you may have some clues, it’s up to you to decide whether to do something with it. Trust this knowing. Treasure this knowing.

It’s right here… How to live your passion

I give my deepest heartfelt thanks to those who had given me their wisdom, their guidance, and unconditional acceptance for me to find out what I really want to do in this life. With that so, I hope everyone would meet such people on their crossroads or paths.

Love, Siew Cheng.
